Had a barista roast me for ordering a latte iced and it made me question everything

I was at a local spot in Portland last Saturday and this barista goes "you know an iced latte is just cold milk with a shot, right?" Like he was disappointed in me. He said the hot version brings out the beans more. I've been drinking iced lattes for like 5 years thinking I knew what I was doing. Now I'm wondering if I've been missing out on flavor this whole time. Anyone else get called out like that and switch up their order?

Does the temperature really change the flavor or is that just coffee snob talk?

That barista was kinda right about hot bringing out the flavor. But an iced latte isn't just cold milk with a shot. It's espresso over ice with milk. He missed the part where the ice dilutes it a bit. Not as wrong as he made it sound though.

Nah man @shanef34 I gotta disagree. Hot coffee just tastes more bitter and acidic to me, the ice actually smooths it out and keeps the espresso from getting that burnt edge.
