Pro tip: the guy at the local roastery who told me to ditch my scale
I was at Blue Bottle in Portland last Tuesday, hovering over the chemex like a weirdo, and this older barista just waved me over. He said, "You're overthinking it, just use the same scoop every morning and adjust by taste." It actually works for my morning routine, but does anyone else feel like they're cheating by not measuring everything?

Man that Blue Bottle barista sounds like he knew what was up, honestly refreshing advice.

Right? That barista really cut through all the noise. Honestly, it's the kind of straightforward advice you don't hear enough of these days, you know?

Honestly, that's a solid point but I gotta ask - how many scoops are we talking here for a standard 12 cup batch? Because I tried the scoop method with my old Melitta cone and ended up with this muddy, bitter mess that tasted like regret. The barista at my local shop in Denver said the same thing but he never told me his actual scoop size or ratio.
