TIL my French press was brewing way too long because I was guessing the minutes

I finally timed it exactly last week and found out I was steeping my coffee for 6 minutes instead of 4. All those bitter cups I blamed on the beans... turns out it was me the whole time. I hit the 4-minute mark with a cheap kitchen timer and the difference was like night and day. Anyone else just eyeball their steep time and end up with a mess?

A good reminder most of our frustration is just bad timing.

My middle of the night check engine light thing last month was just bad timing too. @jamesf29 you hit it, most of the crap we stress over wouldn't even matter if we caught it at a different hour or day.

Right, "caught it at a different hour or day" - that's the part that gets me. I had a flat tire last spring, middle of a Tuesday afternoon, no big deal, called roadside assistance, was back on the road in 45 minutes. Same exact car, same exact tire, but if it had happened at 2 AM on a Sunday? I'd have been stuck in a gas station parking lot for hours, probably calling my brother to come get me in his truck (he hates that). Timing is everything, but it's also the one thing we can't control, which is probably why it drives us so crazy. We'll blame the universe for bad timing, but really it's just the universe being random.
