Rant: Stop calling every variant cover a 'first appearance'

Went to a small con in Cleveland last Saturday and heard three dealers pitching a 2023 foil as a first appearance because the character waved in one panel. I collect keys, I know the difference, but I watched two teenagers drop $120 on the wrong book. This misinformation spreads on social media and now new fans are getting burned. Am I the only one tired of checking every slab label twice before trusting the price?

Yeah I got burned like that once on a glow in the dark cover they swore was a first app. Now I just pull up the actual issue date on my phone right there at the table before I hand over cash. Saves me every time.
