That Saturday at Atomic Comics in Mesa when the pull list got wiped
So last Saturday I walked into Atomic Comics in Mesa around noon, same as always, and the guy behind the counter looked like he'd seen a ghost. Some new employee had accidentally deleted about 200 pull lists from the system instead of just one, and mine was one of them. I had been building that list for close to two years, every single issue of Saga and Department of Truth just gone, no warning, no backup that went back further than 30 days. A guy named Pete next to me lost his whole Amazing Spider-Man run he'd been collecting since 2018, and he just sat on the floor for ten minutes staring at a long box. The owner ended up handing out 20 percent off for the rest of the month and said he'd try to reorder what he could, but half that stuff was already gone from distributors. It made me realize how much I trust these shops with my hobby, and how fast one wrong click can wreck it. Has anyone else had a shop lose their pull list, and did they actually make it right or just hand you a discount and move on?
How does a shop even let something like that happen with no backup older than 30 days? That part floors me more than the deletion itself. Two years of a pull list just gone because somebody clicked the wrong thing, and there is no safety net at all. The owner handing out 20 percent off feels less like making it right and more like sweeping it under the rug, especially since he knew half the books could not be reordered anyway. Pete sitting on the floor staring at that long box says everything about how much this stuff means to people. Seems like shops should be printing or exporting those lists somewhere else on a regular basis, because trusting one system with years of collecting is a big risk.
