Vent: Comic book meetups used to feel more personal

I met an older fan at a con, and he told me they used to have weekly gatherings at the same diner. Everything is online now, which is easier but not the same.

Heard stories like that from older collectors. The online stuff is convenient but it just doesn't hit the same.

Honestly though, has anyone talked about how the waiting used to be part of the fun? You'd hear a rumor about some rare figure showing up at a specific store, and you'd have to actually go check for yourself, maybe for weeks. That build-up made finding it mean so much more. Tbh half the memory is just talking to other people in line or the store clerk about what you were hoping to find. Online, you just click and it shows up at your door, and the whole social hunt is just gone.

Why was chatting in line such a KEY part of the fun?

Yeah, when dylan_owens said the social hunt is gone, that really clicked for me. I spent so many Friday nights lined up outside Comics Unlimited for the midnight release. You'd end up knowing everyone's pull list by heart just from talking all evening. Getting your hands on that new number one felt like a real event, a little win. These days I just get an email when my subscription ships, and it shows up in a box. The magic's kinda faded without all those dumb talks in the cold.
