A crusty old tender in Galveston told me my umbilical coiling was a mess

He said, 'You're gonna get a wrap on that and it'll be your last dive.' I started using a figure-eight pattern on the deck and haven't had a single tangle since. How do you guys manage your hose on a tight deck space?

Seems a bit dramatic. My hose gets messy sometimes but it's never been a life or death thing. Just shake it out before you jump in.

Oh man, my buddy learned the hard way. He didn't shake out his hose and a spider bit him, had a gnarly reaction. @jakeb81 is right though, good loops save you from that mess.

Figure eights are the way to go, man. That old timer knew his stuff. I do the same thing on my little boat, just keep the loops nice and wide. Tried the over-under method once and made a total mess. Now I just stick with what works.
