Wasted $400 on a drysuit zipper repair that lasted 3 dives

Took my suit to a shop in Seattle that swore they could fix a stuck zipper for a fraction of a new suit cost. First dive after that, the zipper blew out at 60 feet, flooded my suit, and I had to abort the whole job. Anyone else trust a cheap repair and regret it?

In my experience, always demand a warranty in writing on any zipper repair.

Ha, good luck getting most repair shops to commit to that in writing. The real trick nobody talks about is checking if the zipper tape itself is still intact before you even ask for a warranty. If the fabric around the zipper is frayed or pulling away, no amount of written paper is gonna save you when the whole thing rips out a month later. I've seen folks wave a warranty in my face but the actual attachment point was already shot, and that's a whole different problem.

Guess that zipper repair had its own warranty expiration date.
