Went to Micro Center yesterday and watched a customer argue with a sales guy for 15 minutes about thermal paste
Guy insisted you need to spread it with a credit card like butter on toast. Sales guy kept trying to show him the pea method video. Has anyone else stopped trying to help customers who think they know better?

That credit card thing drives me crazy. The pea method works fine and has been proven over and over. But honestly I get why some people think they know better - there's so much bad advice floating around on YouTube and forums from 10 years ago. Had a buddy who swore by the spread method and actually damaged his CPU pins because he used too much pressure. Sometimes you just gotta let them learn the hard way and keep your mouth shut unless they ask for help.

Come on, is it really that big of a deal though... I mean you're just putting paste on a CPU, it's not like brain surgery or something. Your buddy must have been really grinding that spreader into the socket to bend pins, that takes some serious effort honestly. I've seen people just blob it on there like they're frosting a cake and the thing still boots up fine. Maybe we all need to take a step back and remember it's just goop on a chip, not a life or death decision.
