TIL the moon landing hoax theory actually started with a 1970s book

I was parked at a Love's in Flagstaff, Arizona listening to a podcast about conspiracy theories. The host broke down how a guy named Bill Kaysing wrote a book in 1976 claiming NASA faked the moon landings, but he had zero proof. I always thought the idea was ancient, but it's barely 50 years old and started with one disgruntled employee. Anyone else find out a theory they believed turned out to be way newer than they thought?

Wait, does that mean I've been telling people the moon landing hoax was from the 1960s for like, my whole adult life? That's just embarrassing. I saw a TikTok saying it was proven by some engineer's grainy photo once and I just accepted it without checking anything. Now I'm sitting here wondering how many other "facts" I've been confidently repeating that are just from some random book from the 70s. My brain's basically a faulty radio station picking up static and calling it news.

Did you ever find out who was filming the astronauts through the basement window? I swear I once argued with my college roommate that the whole thing was directed by Stanley Kubrick because I saw a YouTube video that had "proof" in the lighting. Turns out the guy in the video was just some dude with a conspiracy blog and zero movie credits. I pretty much had to eat my words when my roommate pulled up the actual NASA footage and timeline stuff. Now I just keep my mouth shut whenever someone brings up space stuff. Its safer that way.
