Why does nobody talk about dead cell towers on holiday weekends

Last July 4th in rural Vermont, my GPS died for 6 hours near Stowe because the tower got overloaded with tourists. I had a paper map but the roads were all renamed for the festival, has anyone else gotten stranded by this kind of infrastructure gap?

Tbh that sounds like a total nightmare. Getting stranded with no signal and roads that don't match the map is exactly the kind of thing that makes you want to just stay home.

Man, I used to be the exact opposite. I'd laugh at people who got all worked up about having no signal, figured it was part of the adventure. But then I actually got stuck on a forest road that was on the map but totally washed out, and it was getting dark. No bars, no other cars, and the map was just straight up lying to me. That's when it clicked that being stranded isn't a fun story, it's just scary and dumb. So yeah, I get the "stay home" thing now, but honestly I just carry a paper map and a power bank and don't trust my phone for anything important.
