My PM kept a paper map for every job because he doesn't trust the app, and after watching the app fail last Tuesday I get it now
I used to give him grief about the paper maps until the scheduling app glitched and sent two concrete crews to the same site off I-35 last Tuesday, and now I'm the one printing backups, so what's your low-tech safety net you still keep around?
I read a thing a while back about how airline pilots still carry paper charts even with all the fancy screens in the cockpit, and it's the same deal, when the system goes down you need something that can't crash. A dispatcher buddy of mine said his outfit runs the app but keeps a whiteboard in the office for the day's runs, just in case. Seems like the smart move is to have one backup that doesn't need a signal or a login, even if you never touch it.
