Pro tip: Watch your toolbox photo from 8 months ago and tell me your crew is not stealing
I took a picture of my full toolbox setup back in November and compared it to one I snapped last week, and I am missing about $1,400 worth of gear. Two cordless drills, a band saw, and my good laser level are gone. Nobody broke in, the lock was fine, so somebody on my own crew has been walking stuff out a piece at a time for months. I started marking serial numbers with a paint pen after that and I caught a guy two weeks later with a drill that had my initials on the bottom. The worst part is I trusted this dude to run a whole floor of framing in Sugar Land for me. Now I keep a clipboard sheet where guys sign out anything over $200 and it comes back at the end of shift. It feels like babysitting but my tool budget stopped bleeding money. Has anybody else had a slow drip like this and how did you handle it without blowing up the whole crew's morale?
Is this like how people slowly eat snacks out of the shared office fridge and nobody notices for weeks? Small losses over time are way easier to miss than one big grab. The sign out sheet sounds like the right move, honest guys won't care and the other kind will hate it.
