The port-a-potty guy at my site in Reno taught me more about scheduling than my PM did
I was running a small tenant improvement job in Reno last year and the guy who services the port-a-potties kept showing up at 5:45am, way before anyone else. After a couple weeks I asked him why so early and he said it was because our lot was the only one on his route where a concrete truck couldn't block him in after 7. He had 14 stops that day and one of them was a school, so our stop had to happen before the buses. I stood there with my coffee while he explained his whole route to me and it hit me that this guy had a better grip on site access and sequencing than half the supers I've worked with. We had a delivery scheduled for 8 that same morning that I had to reroute because somebody parked a boom lift right in the driveway. I spent the next hour on the phone fixing it and he was already three stops ahead of me. Turns out thinking about who arrives when and what can block them is most of the job, we just dress it up with paperwork. Anybody else got a vendor or sub who quietly knows your site better than you do?
