Finally nailed a consistent balayage formula after switching my lightener

I was using a standard powder bleach for years but the lift was always a bit uneven on my thicker-haired clients. Switched to the L'Oreal Blond Studio Creme Lightener last month and the difference is night and day. The cream base gives me way more control and processing time, so I can get that perfect soft blend from root to end in one go. Anyone else have a go-to lightener for dense, type 2 hair?

Ever try a 20 vol on the under layers? I mix the cream lightener with 30 vol for most of it but drop down for the thicker bits.

Switching from powder to cream was a game changer for me too (the control is just different). How are you handling the heat with that formula on thicker sections? I've found even with a cream, the underlayers on dense hair can process slower, so I sometimes use a lower volume there. What's your full formula mix look like, developer and all?

Totally get that about the underlayers needing more time. My usual mix is the cream lightener with 20 vol all over, but on the really thick back sections I'll drop to 10 vol and just let it sit longer. It keeps the heat down and processes more evenly for me.
