Pro tip: a plastic squeeze bottle of Barbicide saved my shears after I dropped them during a balayage
Last month a client sneezed at the worst time and my $180 shears landed right in a pile of bleach powder on the floor at my booth. I wiped them with a towel and put them straight in a plastic squeeze bottle filled with Barbicide, then left them overnight. The next morning the glide was back and no rust or pitting, 12 years on these shears and that was the first real scare. Has anyone else tried the squeeze bottle trick, or do you use something else to soak tools between clients?
My buddy who does nails had this exact thing happen with a $200 pair of cuticle nippers, dropped them right into her acrylic powder tray. She soaked them in a little mason jar of Barbicide overnight and they came out clean, no rust at all. Only thing she warned me about is to dry them real good after, because if you leave them damp in a closed drawer the hinge can still get funky. The squeeze bottle thing makes sense though since it keeps the whole tool covered without using a ton of liquid.
