After a 40 foot drop at a wind farm in Iowa I started checking every single brake adjustment myself

I had a load swing loose on a tower section back in 2019 because the brake was just a hair off, and it cost the crew three hours of rework and a serious scare for the ground guys. has anyone else had a close call that made you change your whole pre-shift routine?

Jumped out of my truck once to check a strap and forgot the parking brake wasn't set. Rolled right into a ditch. Now I triple check everything and still don't trust it.

Dude @felix414, that's the kind of mistake that sticks with you forever. My buddy did something similar with his work van - left it in neutral on a slight incline while he ran into a store for two minutes. Came back out and it was halfway down the block, wedged between a mailbox and somebody's fence. Now he yanks the parking brake so hard it feels like he's trying to pull the handle off. You ever get that phantom feeling where you walk away from the truck and have to go back and check it again, even though you know you set it?

Phantom feeling where you walk away from the truck and have to go back and check it again" - man, @aaron740, I do that ALL the time. I've literally pulled over twice on a grocery run just to make sure my car didn't roll off into traffic because I thought I heard a bump. It's like that one bad moment rewires your brain permanently, and now you can't trust yourself even when you know you did it right.
