That old timer in Gary who made me slow down, still think about it
Back in 2019 I was running a small crawler on a site in Gary, Indiana and this retired operator named Walt stayed after his shift to watch me level a load. He didn't say much, just pointed at my hook block and said 'you're chasing the swing instead of letting it settle.' He showed me how he'd take a breath and wait for the drum to stop spooling before even touching the tag line, and it clicked. I still catch myself rushing on tight picks, and I wonder if anyone else here had a random stranger give them a tip that stuck for a decade.

Old timers always know the quiet tricks. That breathing thing sounds simple but it's the whole game.

Did the same trick finally click for me after years of fighting my own rhythm, @harper914? Once I stopped forcing it and just let the exhale run long, everything got way calmer.
