Showerthought: That time I bent the rules on a steam pipe repair

My buddy’s shortcut cost him three fingers.

My pour over timer hit 4:30 for the first time and the taste was awful

Honestly, it's just coffee. Some people like the routine of timing it, and others just go by flavor. Neither way is wrong, it's just a drink. Getting super deep about extraction times feels like overthinking a simple pleasure.

Serious question, did anyone else watch 'The Room' for the first time after hearing the hype?

Felt the exact same way about "The Room." That third act with Lisa's lies and Johnny's breakdown is just brutal. It stops being funny and feels like watching a real, sad person fall apart. For me, "Birdemic" was like that. The terrible effects are hilarious, but the guy's panic about climate change and trying to protect his girlfriend gave it a weirdly sweet, earnest heart.

My neighbor said air fryers just reheat old fries, but I made crispy tofu in mine last night.

Agree with @the_rowan, that's a pretty limited view of the appliance. I use mine almost every day for fresh veggies and proteins, not just reheating. It really changes how you cook simple things from scratch.

A customer asked me why I still use a timing light on older engines instead of just a scanner.

My grandpa's old shop manual for a '72 Chevy pickup actually has a hand drawn diagram for setting timing with a light and a piece of chalk. The scanner just gives you a number on a screen, but the light lets you see the dance, you know? It's like the difference between reading sheet music and actually hearing the band play. That rhythm your uncle talked about is real, you can watch the mark jump around and see if the engine's lazy or nervous. New guys miss half the story just staring at a live data stream.
