That random guy at the coffee shop who said my villain lacked a real reason

He pointed out my antagonist just wanted power for no reason, and it hit me that he was right, so now I'm rewriting three chapters to give him a backstory tied to the hero's mistake.

Wait hold on, some random stranger at a coffee shop just gave you story advice that actually changed your whole plot? That's wild, I've never had a barista or customer drop something that useful on me out of nowhere. Hope you bought him another drink or something because three chapters of rewriting is a serious commitment off a stranger's offhand comment.

The "offhand comment" thing - yeah I used to think that was just movie magic too. But then a guy in line behind me pointed out a hole in my timeline and now I'm a believer.

Wait was he just standing there listening to you talk through your plot? That's kind of weird but also amazing. What exactly was the hole he spotted that you had totally missed? I'm curious if it was something obvious like a character age not matching up with a historical event or more of a subtle motivation thing that broke the whole story. Because if a stranger can do that from overhearing you rant for five minutes then maybe all those coffee shop writing sessions are secretly gold mines.
