A collector told me my payment history was being read wrong...

Last month I called Capital One to ask about a late payment on my report from 2022. The guy on the phone said I was looking at it all wrong, that paying off a charged off account doesn't reset the clock like I thought. Turns out I'd been panicking over nothing for almost a year. Has anyone else gotten bad info from reading credit forums instead of just calling the bank directly?

Huh, that's actually not totally right either. Paying off a charged off account does update the "date of last activity" which can make it look recent to some scoring models, so you still need to be careful.

Ngl, I gotta push back here. Calling the bank isn't always the magic fix either. Half the time you get someone reading off a script who doesn't actually know the rules deep down, like that collector you talked to gave you wrong info if jason's right. Credit forums can be messy, sure, but at least you're cross-referencing a bunch of folks who've been through it instead of trusting one random phone rep who might be guessing.
