Skeptical about a $40 credit monitoring app, now I check it daily
I figured those apps were all scare tactics, but after a friend caught a fraudulent account on hers last June, I gave one a shot. It flagged a hard inquiry I didn't recognize within 48 hours, which turned out to be a legit error on my report. Has anyone else found a monitoring tool that actually catches stuff before it hits your score?
Hard inquiries really don't affect your score much anyway, so that alert probably would've been no big deal. Those apps are better at catching new accounts opening in your name, which is the thing that actually matters. Still, catching a legit error fast is kinda cool, I guess.
