I finally figured out why my router kept dropping every night at 9pm

Took me three weeks of resetting that thing over and over. Turns out it was my neighbor's garage door opener blasting some kind of interference every time he came home from his shift. Never would have guessed that. A buddy at work told me to check the frequency bands and sure enough, switching to 5GHz fixed it completely. Anyone else run into weird interference like this from something random?

My neighbor's microwave used to kill my wifi every time he reheated his coffee at 7am sharp. Took me a month to figure that one out, but I actually think 2.4GHz is way underrated for stuff like this. 5GHz is faster but it dies the second you walk two rooms away or hit a wall. I'd rather deal with one weird garage door glitch every night than have my whole house be a dead zone for the rest of the day. Plus a lot of older devices don't even support 5GHz so you're just cutting out half your gadgets. My thermostat and my smart plugs are both 2.4GHz only so switching would break those completely.

Yeah @phoenix_lewis you might be onto something here. I used to be all about the 5GHz speed but then I realized half my stuff can't even see it and I'm basically roaming my own house like a fool. Now I'm thinking 2.4GHz is the practical choice for most folks. You ever had to pick between speed and actually getting signal everywhere?

Same here, my neighbor's WiFi was somehow nuking my garage door opener for weeks.
