I switched from a free email service to a paid one just for the data control

I got tired of my old free provider scanning every email to target ads, so I moved to a $5 a month service that promises zero data mining. The peace of mind knowing my messages aren't being picked apart is worth the cost. Has anyone else made a similar switch and found a good provider?

My cousin's wedding photos got flagged by the old scanner, that was my final straw.

What finally pushed you over the edge to switch? For me it was getting ads for stuff I only talked about in emails with my brother, like a specific tool brand. That creeped me out enough to pay for privacy. I went with Proton Mail and it's been solid, no weird targeted stuff popping up anymore. The switch was a bit of a hassle but totally worth it for that feeling of control.

My mechanic shop email still gets spam anyway.
