PSA: Opted out of Target's data sharing and saw my coupon offers drop by half

I went into my Target account settings last month and unchecked all those boxes allowing them to share my purchase history with third parties. Figured it'd be a small privacy win, but now my Circle offers have gone from like 10-12 items down to maybe 4-5 each week. Honestly, it's wild how much your shopping data is tied to getting discounts, even at just one store in St. Louis. Has anyone else noticed their loyalty perks tank after tightening privacy controls?

lol is losing a few coupons really that big of a deal? I mean Target still gives you deals on stuff you probably actually buy regularly, you just aren't getting random junk coupons anymore. My friend did the same thing and she said she went from getting like 8 coupons to 4 but half of the ones she lost were for things like baby wipes and pet food that she doesn't even have. Seems like a fair trade off for not having your shopping habits sold to whoever wants them.

Actually, you know what, I kinda came into this thinking the same thing you did. I figured losing a few random coupons was no big loss, especially since most of them were for stuff I'd never buy anyway. But after seeing how much tracking actually goes into those personalized deals, I started to get it. It's not really about the coupons themselves, it's about the whole system behind them - they're using your data to figure out exactly what you'll buy and at what price point. Once I realized that, I didn't feel so great about getting "better" deals anymore.

Isn't that basically the whole business model for these coupon programs though?
