Stumbled on a stat that said 79% of folks never read privacy policies
I was digging through some old Pew Research stuff from 2019 and found that number. It basically says most of us click agree without a second thought. I remember back in 2004 when I actually read the whole iTunes terms. Took me 45 minutes and I still didn't understand half of it. Now we just hand over our location, contacts, and browsing history in like 2 seconds flat. Has anyone here ever actually read a whole privacy policy from start to finish?

Reading privacy policies is a waste of time. They are written by lawyers for lawyers to cover the company's back, not for regular people to understand. Clicking agree without reading is the only realistic option if you want to use the internet in 2024. The real issue is should we have to agree at all, not whether we read the fine print.

Honestly @blake792, privacy policies aren't just for lawyers, they're legally binding contracts you're agreeing to.

Yeah, because clicking "I agree" on a 50 page document written in Old English legalese is TOTALLY the same as signing a mortgage contract. Next time I download an update I'll be sure to read 47 paragraphs about cookie types before I get the new emojis. These companies make their policies impossible to read on purpose, so calling it a "real agreement" is a JOKE.
