Why do people still post shirtless mirror selfies in 2025?

I swear I see at least three of these per day on Hinge and it's always the same thing - guy in a messy bathroom, phone covering half his face, zero context. Last week I matched with someone who had that as his only photo and the conversation lasted 30 seconds. Am I the only one who instantly swipes left on these or do some people actually find them appealing? What's the thought process behind posting one?

Saw a thing the other day about how posting your Spotify wrapped is basically the same thing. Like people just want that little dopamine hit from someone liking their music picks. It's not really about sharing anything meaningful, it's more about getting a quick pat on the back. Same vibe when someone posts a screenshot of their step count for the day. Just feels like digital junk food for the ego.

Man I gotta say, my buddy tried that once back in college. He spent a whole 45 minutes trying to get the lighting right in his bathroom with a half-open curtain. Took like 80 photos and still hated the one he posted. Got three likes and one was from his mom. He deleted it after a week.
