That deepfake of the mayor in my town went viral last Tuesday and nobody believed it was fake
Someone made a video of our mayor saying he was going to cut the school budget by 40%. It spread all over Facebook before anyone fact checked it. My aunt shared it and when I told her it was fake she said 'well it looks real to me.' The mayor had to release a real video the next day to calm everyone down. Has anyone else seen a local deepfake like this cause actual drama in your area?

Oh my. I saw a news report about that exact kind of thing happening in a district near Chicago.

That is crazy! Same thing happened in my town last month with a deepfake of our school board president. Someone made it look like she was talking about selling off a playground for condos, and it caused a huge fight at the next meeting before we figured out it was fake.
