That deepfake video of a politician 'confessing' cost me $200 in fact-checking tools
I bought a year subscription to a service that promised to verify video authenticity after seeing a wild clip of the mayor admitting fraud. Turns out the detection software flagged everything as fake including my own home recordings, and I wasted $200 with no refund. Has anyone else fallen for these verification tool scams that feed off our paranoia?

$200 for a fact checker that screams 'fake' at your own cat videos is a pretty steep price. It's the same pattern I see with home security camera subscriptions that flag every passing squirrel as a intruder. Feels like these services are built more on selling peace of mind than actually delivering it.

That line about "screaming fake at your own cat videos" really hit home @calebc40... I dropped $200 on one of those tools and my 3-second clip of me tripping over the dog got flagged as "AI generated human locomotion anomaly" or something ridiculous. It's like paying extra for a smoke detector that goes off when you make toast... makes you feel smart for the first 5 minutes then you just feel dumb.
