Why does nobody talk about how deepfake tech is messing with old court cases?

I was watching this true crime doc from 2018 and they used a deepfake to show what a witness might have seen, but I started wondering if that stuff could be used to fake evidence in real trials. On one side, it could help recreate crime scenes more accurately and get better jury decisions. On the other hand, imagine someone faking a video of you at a crime scene you never went to. My buddy from Chicago just told me his cousin's case had a video thrown out cause they couldn't prove it was real, cost him $8,000 in legal fees. Has anyone else seen this stuff pop up in real legal situations?

Not enough people are asking how this affects plea bargains behind closed doors.

Press the DA's office on whether they're offering sweeter deals to people who just admit guilt instead of fighting the evidence. A lot of defendants might be told it's cheaper to take the plea than to prove the video is fake, and that's messed up. It feels like the system is setting people up to plead guilty to things they didn't even do.
