Just realized I was archiving the wrong versions of deleted posts

I've been screenshotting Reddit comments for years. Always grabbed what was visible. Turns out you can check old versions via removeddit or reveddit. Saw a post vanish from a local HVAC forum and checked the archive. The deleted reply had the actual fix. I'd been saving dead ends the whole time. Anyone else dig into the original threads before grabbing screenshots?

I get what you're saying about casual drama threads, but for niche stuff like furnace error codes or weird electrical issues, the deleted comment is usually the only useful one. I've seen mods nuke whole threads because the fix involved bypassing a safety sensor or using a non-standard part. The visible replies are just people guessing or linking to the manual. That local HVAC post you mentioned? I bet the dead ends were stuff like "call a professional" or "check your filter" which is useless when you're in a bind at 2am. Digging into the archive takes thirty seconds extra and saves me from bookmarking garbage advice.

I get what you're saying, but honestly I think grabbing the visible version is usually fine for most cases. If the deleted comment had the actual fix, then yeah checking the archive makes sense for a specific technical thing. But for general drama or discussions, the live post tells you enough about the vibe and the points being made. Pretty sure digging into old versions just for everyday threads is overkill unless you're trying to fact check someone's deleted rant. What kind of stuff are you usually archiving?
