Had a chat with a guy at Eastern Market who changed how I look at small biz

He runs a hot sauce stall and told me he only takes cash because "credit cards turn customers into browsers, not buyers." Has anyone else noticed a difference in sales when you switch up payment options?

A buddy of mine runs a food truck and he switched to Square readers three years ago. His sales went UP by about 15% in the first month because people impulse buy when they can just tap their card instead of asking if he has change for a 20. The hot sauce guy has a point about browsers, but in my experience the difference is more about the type of product you sell. Quick impulse buys like a taco or a lemonade do better with cards, but if you're selling something people have to really think over like a $15 bottle of hot sauce, cash makes them commit more.

Is a 15% sales jump really measurable or just a lucky month?

15% jump from switching readers sounds more like a coincidence than a cause.
