Picked the cheaper cloud server over AWS for our Detroit startup - now I'm scrambling
Last month I had to choose between a $50/month VPS from a local provider and AWS starting at $15 but with hidden scaling costs. I went with the VPS because it felt simpler and cheaper upfront. Big mistake. Our app went down during a demo for a potential investor last Tuesday because the server couldn't handle the traffic spike. Now I'm migrating everything to AWS this weekend and eating the overtime cost. Anyone else get burned by picking the budget option for their business tools?

When you save a few bucks upfront you usually end up paying double later. It's like @calebc40 said, that whole "buy it nice or buy it twice" thing keeps proving itself true.
