Choosing between a full rebuild or a used long block for a 6.7 Powerstroke

The customer's budget was tight, so I went with a low-mileage used block from a salvage yard in Memphis. It's been running solid for 8 months now, but I still wonder if the rebuild would have lasted longer.

Actually, a good used long block can outlast a rebuild if the core was solid. You avoided the risk of a bad machine shop or cheap rebuild parts. Eight months of solid running is a pretty strong sign you made the right call for the budget.

Karen's got a real point there about dodging the machine shop gamble. Keith's gut might be wrong sometimes, but a solid used engine is often the smarter play for your wallet. Just getting it in and driving without issues for that long is the best review you can get.

Well, my gut feeling is usually wrong, so maybe you did the smart thing!
