My union rep told me to just delete the meme, turns out he was wrong
I got a warning from HR last month over a meme I posted in a private Discord that mocked our CEO's weird crypto push. My union rep said to just take it down and apologize, keep the peace, you know? I did that, but then the company quietly changed the social media policy to include private servers, and now two other people got written up for similar stuff. I mean, deleting it didn't protect anyone, it just made HR think they could push further. Anyone else had a union or rep give bad advice that cost you more leverage in the long run?
Man I gotta disagree here, your rep was probably trying to keep you employed, not hand HR a win. Fighting a write-up over a meme usually just gets you fired faster, especially when the policy is already that vague.
Ha, man that's the way it always goes isnt it? You'd think fighting for what's right would help but nah, it usually just paints a target on your back. @shane_hayes is probably right that the rep was just trying to keep the peace, which is its own kind of messed up. Honestly I see this same pattern everywhere now, at the DMV, with landlords, even at the grocery store. People got so used to just taking the little hits so they don't get flattened by the big ones, and that's just how the game is played anymore.
