Spent 3 hours fighting a YouTube comment filter today

Wrote a perfectly normal reply to a video about copyright law. Hit post and it vanished. No error, no warning. Just gone. Took me 45 minutes just to figure out which word triggered it. Ended up being "DMCA" which is literally the topic we were discussing. Anyone else run into filters that block the actual subject you're talking about?

Had the exact same thing happen to me a few months back. Was commenting on a video about music licensing and the word "royalty" got flagged. Not even the payment kind, just the word. Ended up having to spell it out as "roy-al-tee" to get past the filter. It's insane how these systems block the main thing people are trying to talk about. YouTube's filter feels like it was designed by someone who's never actually used YouTube before.

But is that really a bad thing though? I actually think it makes sense to be over cautious with words that could be related to illegal activity, even if it's annoying for the rest of us. Like, if the filter let everything through, imagine how much scam stuff would be in the comments promoting fake royalty payments or money laundering schemes. YouTube has to deal with so much spam and fraud that they probably set the filter extra tight just to be safe. Yeah it's frustrating when you're just talking about music licensing, but I'd rather have that minor annoyance than have the platform get flooded with people trying to trick others out of their money.

Just gotta love how YouTube's filter thinks "royalty" is a crime word but lets actual scam comments slide right through. I saw a bot yesterday promising "free iPhone 15" in all caps and somehow that one made it past the all powerful algorithm. Guess the system's busy protecting us from people talking about music and historical kings instead. What a joke.
