Overheard a guy at a coffee shop say his CTR tripled after rewriting his meta descriptions
I was grabbing a latte last Tuesday and this guy was on the phone talking about how he changed all his meta descriptions to include a specific question people actually search. He said his click-through rate went from 1.2% to 3.8% in two weeks. I went home and tried it on five of my own blog posts covering basic how-to topics. Four of them saw a boost within 10 days, the fifth stayed flat. Has anyone else tested question-based meta descriptions and seen real results?

Yeah I totally had the same thing happen. I rewrote meta descriptions on like 12 product pages for my site, swapped out the generic descriptions for actual questions people type into Google. One was "how to fix a leaky faucet" and another was "what size air conditioner do I need." The leaky faucet page went from 2.1% CTR to 5.4% in a week. The AC one jumped to 4.7%. The ones that stayed flat were for stuff like "best kitchen knives" where people are just browsing, not looking for a specific answer. So it makes sense it works best for question-based searches.

Man, that's some real good data. So @foster.tessa, did you notice the search terms staying the same after you changed the meta descriptions, or did the new phrasing actually help bring in different kinds of queries too? I'm wondering if rewriting those descriptions just made the existing traffic click more, or if it opened the door for a whole new batch of people searching for those exact questions. Like, did "how to fix a leaky faucet" suddenly start ranking for longer tail phrases after you changed it, or was it the same keyword pool just with a better sell?

Those CTR jumps are wild though lol, almost makes me want to go rewrite all my meta descriptions just to see if my "how to not burn toast" page finally gets some love.
