Picked a $200 email tool over a free one for my landscaping clients

Had to choose between Mailchimp's free tier and ActiveCampaign's $200 plan for sending seasonal tips to customers. Went with ActiveCampaign because the automation let me tag clients by service type. Anyone else find that paying upfront for marketing tools actually saves time in the long run?

Wait, you actually hand-copied customer data between a spreadsheet and Mailchimp instead of letting automation do it?

Gotta call this one out - $200 for email to landscaping clients sounds like overkill. I've used Mailchimp free for two years with my small operation and it does fine for tagging. Last month I sent different tips to lawn care people versus hardscape clients just using groups. Took me maybe 15 minutes to set up. What exactly did the automation save you that a spreadsheet and some copy-paste couldn't do for free?

Yeah it's funny how we all get tricked into thinking we need fancy tools for everything. Even in my own life I see people buying expensive apps when a simple routine or a notebook would do the same job. Aren't half the problems we solve just about being consistent with the basics?
