Shoutout to the guy who told me about Signal after I got my email spammed
I used to think a burner email was all I needed for privacy. Then someone at the diner in Portland saw me texting a friend and warned me about metadata. Now I've switched all my personal chats to Signal and even got my sister on it last month. Has anyone else had luck convincing older relatives to drop Facebook Messenger for something encrypted?

Portland friend @jessej23 got his 60 year old dad off group texts with a fake "your accounts been hacked" alert from AOL.

My 70 year old neighbor got a real phishing email claiming his Netflix was suspended and he almost clicked the link. The fake scare tactic only works when the person doesn't know how to spot the real scam from the prank. You got lucky your friend's dad bought into it but most older folks I know would just call customer support. Isn't that the whole problem with these jokes they backfire half the time?

Isn't it funny how privacy becomes a bigger deal once you see how much of your life is already out there?
