Question about those expensive bike chain cleaning tools
I was skeptical about spending $40 on a Park Tool chain scrubber for years, thought it was just a gimmick. Last month after my third chain replacement in 18 months I finally caved and bought one. Used it with some simple degreaser and soapy water, and the amount of black grit that came off was honestly gross. Has anyone else noticed their drivetrain lasting longer after using one of these things?

Funny, I was in the same boat for the longest time. Always figured it was another gadget that would just collect dust, you know? Then a buddy of mine swore by his, and after my chain started sounding like a coffee grinder on a wet Tuesday, I grabbed one on a whim. First time I ran it, that dark grey sludge that came out was nasty, I had to run it through three basins of soapy water before it stopped looking like motor oil. Two chains later and I'm still on the same cassette, and I used to swap those out every six months like clockwork.

...and I bet you had to rinse it out like 4 times before the water ran clear too. When I did mine for the first time the gunk was literally caked in the little brush wheels, I had to pick it out with a toothpick. Felt like I was cleaning out a grease trap.
