Caught my neighbor using my WiFi to stream Netflix in 4K

I was sitting on my porch in Cleveland last Tuesday watching my data cap disappear, checked my router log and saw 12 devices connected. Turns out my neighbor's kid was using my unprotected network to watch Stranger Things in 4K. I changed the password, added MAC filtering, and now I'm wondering if I should confront them or just let it slide. Has anyone else caught someone stealing their WiFi?

Leave them alone. You left your network open and they used it. That's on you, not them. Kids watch Netflix, big deal. You changed the password so the problem's solved. Confronting them will just make things awkward for everyone in the building. Plus, if you go knocking on doors over this, you might end up being the weirdo neighbor who cares more about data caps than just being cool about a mistake. Let it go and move on.

Oh man, this whole thing reminds me of the time my roommate in college left his laptop unlocked in the library and someone posted a goofy status update from his Facebook. It was harmless, but he was so mad he spent a week trying to figure out who did it. Finally, the guy fessed up and said he just thought it was funny. My roommate ended up looking like the weird one for making a big deal out of a dumb joke. Point is, sometimes the panic is way worse than the actual problem. If you already locked it down, you're good. Do you really want to be the person who makes a kid feel bad for watching Netflix?

The real question here is what kind of psycho watches Stranger Things in 4K on someone else's WiFi. That's like stealing someone's car and then complaining about the gas mileage. At least the kid's got decent taste in shows, right?
