The free password managers are better than the paid ones I wasted money on
I paid $40 a year for LastPass for 2 years before switching to Bitwarden's free tier. It does the same stuff, auto-fill on my iPhone and desktop, and I can share passwords with my wife without extra fees. LastPass had that breach in 2022 anyway. Has anyone else found a paid tool that's actually worth the cash over the free version?

Used to think paying for security was just the price of doing business online. Bitwarden free made me realize how wrong I was, same features without the guilt trip over a subscription. That 2022 LastPass breach was honestly the push I needed to finally switch.

Hearing about that breach on a tech podcast last year really drove home how easy it is to get complacent with these services. Idk it's wild how we just trust companies with our whole digital lives until something bad happens. Maybe it's just me but I never even considered that a free option could be just as solid until I saw folks talking about it after that incident. I mean the whole thing just makes you question why you were ever paying in the first place when the basics are covered without a subscription.

@amy_craig28 pretty much nailed it. Same boat here - switched after that LastPass thing and never looked back. Free doesn't mean worse, it just means you're not the product they're selling.
