Warning: My window trim painting used to look messy, but I figured out the trick and it's smooth now.

You're thinning latex paint with water, right?

Okay but seriously, what WAS the trick? I've been fighting with my trim for WEEKS and it always looks bumpy. A smooth finish feels impossible without the right method. Please share because this is a total GAME changer for DIY. My last attempt was so bad I almost gave up on painting forever. Getting it right must feel AMAZING, I need to know how!

The trick is thinning the paint more than you think. I use about 10% water for latex paint and apply it with a high quality angled brush. Sanding with fine grit paper between coats is what really makes the surface perfect.

Ever try thinning your paint with a bit of water? I switched to a small, angled brush and used really thin coats, sanding lightly between each one. That combo finally got me that glassy smooth look without any drips or bumps.
