Got humbled by a raccoon at my off grid cabin near Flagstaff
I was getting cocky about my little solar setup... had a 100 watt panel running everything fine for months. Then a raccoon chewed through my controller wire while I was gone for three days. Came back to dead batteries and a freezer full of spoiled venison. Now I wrap all my external wires in metal conduit and set a trap line. Anyone else have critters mess with their gear?

Squirrels are relentless, I swear they target wires on purpose.

Oh man that sucks! That raccoon really did a number on you. I feel your pain, I had a squirrel chew through my inverter cables last year. It knew exactly what it was doing. Now I wrap everything in that metal mesh tape and it's been solid since.

Wrap it in that copper mesh tape stuff, the kind for pest exclusion. I started using it after a rat got into my shed and chewed through the wiring on my pressure washer. It’s a pain to wrap everything but beats having to replace cables every few months.
