Tried to build a solar dryer out of scrap pallets - ended up with a new chicken coop
Last month I got it in my head to make a passive solar food dryer using old pallet wood and a sheet of plexiglass I found. Three hours in, I realized I'd built the frame way too big and it looked more like a small shed. Now I've got 4 chickens living in it and my wife just shakes her head when I bring up the dryer idea again. Anyone else have a project go sideways into something totally different?

Well hell, you got a free chicken coop out of it. That sounds like a win to me if you ever wanted chickens. Chickens are way less work than a solar dryer and they give you eggs every day. A solar dryer would just sit there drying a few tomatoes once a year and gather dust the rest of the time. You saved yourself money on lumber and plexiglass too since you already used it for something useful.

Right?! Same thing happened with my "greenhouse" kit. Way better as a shed.
