Had to pick between teaching guitar or welding in the prison workshop - I chose welding and almost lost an eyebrow
So I volunteer at the county lockup here in Spokane and they asked me to run either a music class or a basic welding workshop for the guys. I figured welding would be more useful for them getting jobs after, right? First session last Wednesday this guy named Dave gets excited pointing at his bead and the torch swung up and singed my entire left eyebrow off. Smelled like burnt hair for hours. Now I'm wondering if I should have just taught them Wonderwall instead. Has anyone else had a DIY prison program backfire like this?

Did you try having them wear safety goggles from the start? I ran a metal shop class once and we made it a rule: no torch even lit without glasses on, saved me grief like that.
