Why I disagree with ditching hand sketches for CAD

Everyone acts like CAD does everything, but I fixed a messy drawing by sketching it first. The paper version showed a scale issue the computer didn't catch. Now I always start with a pencil to avoid rework.

Seriously, my buddy had the same thing happen. He was doing some cabinetry design, and his first CAD draft had this weird spacing. He drew it by hand on a napkin and instantly saw the problem. Saved him a ton of time.

Our brains see things differently on paper than on screen.

Remember my friend who, like @murphy.margaret's buddy, finally printed his code to spot the bug.

Sketch your plans on paper before you open any software. You see how things fit together more clearly when drawing by hand. This small habit saves a lot of trouble down the line.
