Warning: I thought those new pump liner coatings were just a gimmick
My boss insisted we try that ceramic-infused liner coating on our main dredge pump last year. I figured it was just fancy paint and a waste of money. We put it on a worn-out pump casing that usually needed a rebuild every 8 months. That was 14 months ago, and the wear is maybe half of what we'd normally see. The stuff actually works to cut down on abrasion from the sand and gravel mix we move. Has anyone else run a pump this long with one of these coatings, or did we just get lucky?

Wait, you got two years from a single coating?

We had the same thought about it being a gimmick. We coated the impeller and volute on our slurry pump with a polyurethane mix, not ceramic. It went from needing new parts every six months to over a year. The key for us was the surface prep, making sure it was totally clean and rough before applying.

Yeah, surface prep is everything, like @ward.olivia said. We got two years out of a coated pump once by blasting it to bare metal first.
