Overheard my neighbor say duct tape is just for temporary fixes

He was patching a garden hose and I had to bite my tongue - my uncle held a muffler on his 1987 Ford Ranger together with duct tape for six years before he sold it. What's the longest you've ever kept a duct tape fix going?

Did you ask if he used gorilla tape too?

Oh man, that's the trick. You gotta scuff up the surface first and warm the tape up with a hair dryer or it'll just peel off the first time it hits freezing.

Did he actually try getting that seal with a gorilla tape patch? A buddy of mine tried that on his trailer roof and it held for a while but ended up trapping moisture underneath. Then he had to cut out a whole section of plywood and replace it.
