Wasted $60 on a "heavy duty" tarp that ripped in two weeks patching my shed roof
Picked up a blue tarp from the hardware store near me because my shed roof started leaking after that big storm. Guy said it was the toughest one they had. Put it up with some bricks and rope. First strong wind and it tore right down the middle. Ended up using a roll of gorilla tape to fix the original leak and it's held for like 3 months now. Anyone else find that tarps are basically just expensive garbage?

Redirect water flow off the roof first with a temporary gutter so the tarp isn't fighting the runoff.

Yeah mate, tarps are hit or miss, but putting bricks on them is part of the problem. You gotta use grommets and bungee cords so it can flex without tearing.

Wait, you put bricks on top of the tarp? That's wild, no wonder it ripped. The wind probably caught the edge and hammered it against those bricks like a drum. I made a similar mistake last summer when I used cinder blocks on a tarp over my woodpile. One good gust and the whole thing was shredded, plus the blocks cracked. I learned the hard way too that you gotta tie this stuff down with rope through the grommets, not just weigh it down. Did the gorilla tape actually hold up to rain or is it just sitting there dry?
